About
Think Tank Purpose
Develop and incorporate a 6-8 hour sustainable tourism module for tourism education and training programs within Universities and technical training institutions.
BEST began this process in South Africa, 2001, with the subject areas of Tourism Marketing, Tourism Planning, and Development and Human Resources Management. The second Think Tank, held in Hawaii, 2002, addressed the subject areas of Tourism Transportation and Tourism Operations.
The third Think Tank was held in Costa Rica, 2003, which addressed the subject areas of Strategic Management and Events & Meeting Management.
Definition of Sustainability
"Sustainable development meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs." (World Commission on Environment and Development, 1987, Our Common Future, p.43, known as the Brundtland Report)
